SIMPLY DIVINE INTERIORS was contacted to take a look at a terrific French Colonial home in the lovely Pennsbury Township last fall. The home's architectural style turned out to be a Jack Arnold inspired home with all of the elements that go with true Country French Chateau Style. On the inside, the owners wanted to lose the heavy Red and Gold colors of Chester County Style, and transform into a more Limestone and Créme soft French country look.
The homeowners asked us to start looking at the Front Foyer where they wanted to begin the transformation, but before long we could see that the Kitchen layout and Family Room spaces needed serious attention. The project scope quickly blossomed into a full scale 7 room first Floor Redo.
The husband is a professional chef and painter and needed a more functional space to hone his culinary expertise. We started by redesigning the kitchen layout from "soup to nuts". After many decisions were made, and the amazing soft Décor cabinetry with inset furniture grade doors and a magnificent Arched Hood over the central cook top (worthy of the homes' enormous ceilings) was underway, we then came up with a plan for the rest of the first floor spaces. The open plan layout encouraged us to work the design as an entire set of interior room designs that provided the flow of the spaces to be cohesive in tone, texture, and color while still incorporating the separate formality and functions of each space.
Many drafts later, we came up with a plan using a dramatic but much lighter color palate. By incorporating four pale shimmering Thibaut wall coverings and a simple set of fresh fabrics throughout the first floor, we began to transform the existing heavy Red and Orangey Gold into a cloudlike Bisque and Pale Grey toned atmosphere that whispered softly along side of our Soft platinum finishes of a true French Palate. Ohhh La La! We were lucky enough to recognize the chef's Artistic talents and we encouraged him to take his paintings and frame them to fit the new scenery and have us choose the locations to hang them strategically throughout the home. A Perfect and Personal touch!
The home has 11 to 24 foot soaring vaulted and beamed ceilings, all widely opened to each other and only separated by many different levels up and down throughout the first floor. The ceiling had various sharp corners and angles taking away from the soft look we were trying to achieve. We softened the angles by re-glazing some and painting the other walls and ceilings in one bisque flat soft paint color. The simple application of the singular color unified the Vaults and the additions of soft finishes on the wall coverings add the drama. The circular stepped stairwell began just three steps up from the foyer and widely opened into the Formal Living Room Parlor with 10 foot windows which we framed in a Sheer Gate patterned full length simple drapery allowing the 3 acre view to remain as the main focus of the room. The limestone curved mantle on the fireplace was now highlighted by the paint. This set the stage for the look we wanted to achieve. Soft pale blue accessories and white floral sprays softened the look further. The Fantastic 50 inch tall French Trumeau mirror in a cerulean and platinum finish over the sleek curvy salon gold/bronze finished console in the hall sets the Tony French country look. A new chandelier and a pair of French inspired 36 inch long double Sconces flanking the mirror helped to illuminate the entry space also add to the grandeur of the home. A wood and iron chandelier in the Breakfast nook added to the flavor! Many other changes created the overall transformation!
We redesigned a total of 7 spaces for this client in about a year, and we are very proud of all of the results. The clients are very happy and want to start on the Master Suite sometime next year... We are already "dreaming up" some ideas in our heads... We can't wait!
