Since founding the interior design firm SIMPLY DIVINE INTERIORS, designers Lisa Cope and Janice Clark, have been on the fast track to the top. Their early success has opened many doors, including the one to the 2011 Stonebridge Designer Showhouse, which benefited the Oxford Arts Alliance in PA. It was the duo's first experience designing for a show house room, and they prepared their current clients by asking for their patience in the fact that they would be "off design duty" during the creation of the Stonebridge Designer Show house.
The house was a terrific 1914 Georgian Revival in the heart of Chadds Ford, PA. Their room was the first bedroom on the second floor which probably was the son's room judging from the electric boxes' identifying marks. The room had three enormous double hung windows with ample trim work but the rest of the room had very little trim compared to the rest of the magnificent home. The color palette they used was inspired by the York wall covering used by them which signified the theme of a French Country Bed and Breakfast. They titled the room A Tea For Two Bed and Breakfast Room. The bird toile fabric and Lattice, Cerulean pale blue wall covering instantly transformed the blank walls to a tranquil setting! Adding Fantastic Trim molding to match the rest of the house was a "no brainer".
Taking into consideration the negative aspects of the room, they used their design skills to turn them in to the fabulous features of the room. For instance, one main negative fact was that there was an unsightly, ill placed radiator unit that had to be dealt with. They turned lemons into lemonade by creating a false wall that both hid the radiator and allowed it to function but also created a false fireplace with a vintage mantle surround that looked like it had been closed off with a fantastic antiqued mirror in the opening. Voila, truly a big hit in the Bed and Breakfast lovers criteria. This fabulous faux fireplace fooled many of the visitors and it was fun to watch their expressions! Other negative aspects of the room were also dealt with through their design acumen and increased the beauty of the room ten-fold! Take a look at the new before and after Pictures and you will see how they altered other difficulties with the room and turned them into wonderful features of the room.
Although the show house was a significant expense to their newly established business, they felt the cost was more than justified by the exposure they received. Said Janice, "On opening night and even throughout the month-long duration of the show house we never got tired of the Oohhs! and Ahhs! received from the visitors!, But the first applause was truly a 'pinch us' moment!"
Early in the process, SIMPLY DIVINE INTERIORS did some research and found that coordinating installation schedules in a show house can always be a challenge when many different design firms are involved, so Cope and Clark decided to "bring it on" and get it done early. Being the early bird at the show house proved infinitely beneficial, and helped to avoid many logistical complications from driveway traffic jams to being photo ready when the press rolled in. They were the top featured room in the News Journal out of Wilmington DE. Enjoy the pictures!
